Overcoming gym apprehension

I have learned a few things about getting myself to the gym and sticking with it.
I only started going to the gym regularly a few months ago, but since then I have managed to build a habit and I make sure I go every week.
For me, exercising is a long term habit I have wanted to build for a long time, it is about making better choices for a healthier lifestyle. I was determined to make it a part of my weekly routine and that is what motivated me in the first place.

One of the main excuses you have to overcome is feeling tired. My favourite time to go to the gym is between 7 and 9pm, so I am always tired when I go. No matter how tired I feel before I begin though, I always have so much energy during and after, making me feel great. It really does have the opposite effect to what you would expect.

Another thing that was holding me back was that not exercising regularly had left me really unfit and I didn't have much confidence, so I go with a friend and we have a laugh.
I also thought it would take a long time to see any improvement. Until I spoke to a friend who is into running, who insisted that my fitness level, after a relatively short time of feeling like I wasn't improving, would suddenly shoot up. This increased my motivation ten fold. He was right as well. After feeling like I was about to pass out about minute after being on a treadmill, I can now go for more than 10 minutes at a much faster pace. This is after going 2-3 times a week for about 2 months, not long at all.

Another piece of advice is to set realistic goals. You are not going to see results fast, it is something that will happen over time and it takes hard work. When I first started going to the gym I was just proud of myself for turning up, it didn't matter what I achieved when I was there.  Be proud that you actually made it to the gym. Once you manage to go regularly, just try to beat the time, speed or reps you set last time.

If you have any more questions, please get in touch. I hope this helps a bit though! :)
B. xoxo
