The last film I watched was A Perfect Getaway
It was rated with just under 4 stars on Netflix and Chris has had a crush on Milla Jovovich in ages so I figured why not put it on. It's not often I chose a film and really dislike it, but everything from the way it was filmed to the acting and the story were, in my opinion, pretty terrible. It's about a couple who go on their honeymoon to Hawaii and they go on a hiking trail to a remote beach. Along the way they meet 2 other couples. They hear in the news that a couple on their honeymoon have been murdered on the island by a man and a woman and then each of them is trying to work out who the murderers are. The one thing that annoyed me most was when there was a twist at the end it didn't work with the rest of the film. I would rate this 1.5 out of 5.
Another film I watched the other day was Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
I had heard of this, although didn't really know much about it. It stars Ewan McGregor who I have always liked since I watched Trainspotting many years ago and also The Long Way Round. So I figured it should be pretty good. The story involves a sheik from the Yemen who has a passion for salmon fishing and wants to take it to his native country. It wasn't the best film I've seen this year, but I do admit sometimes I just want something nice and lighthearted. It didn't disappoint for a British film and I awarded it 3.5 stars for being so easy to watch.
Another film I watched recently that stands out in my mind is Avatar. Yes I admit I'm pretty behind with most of these films, but if you don't have the time or money for the cinema these days like me you will understand!
This one we actually borrowed on blu-ray. Once again a completely different film, I do like variety.
I always check IMDb for info whenever I watch anything, but if you look up their description for Avatar it is vague to say the least. The plot involves an ex Marine sent out to a moon called Pandora in replacement of his twin brother. He arrives on the planet as his avatar Jake and sets out on a mission to befriend the locals. It's a pretty long film at 162 minutes, but luckily it's worth it. I really got into the story and it had me gripped throughout. It does have a fairly predictable ending, but as the storyline was unusual I would probably give it 4.5/5.
